Life Will Pass You by If You Don’t Speed Up.
Don’t worry. I’m not saying you need Usain Bolt crazy speed.
But without speed, you won’t have the extra edge you need in sports, hobbies, or even life activities (like getting out of the way of traffic).
Speed, and it’s cousin Power, are what protect you when you decide to hop into a beach volleyball game, or chase down a fly ball in softball, or suddenly change direction in soccer.
How Speed and Power Work
Speed recruits a certain type of muscle fiber – fast twitch- and the more you use it the more you build the fast fibers that gives you a lean, muscular, strong, fit appearance. You basically train the muscle and the nervous system to move faster. And remember, the human body always seeks to adapt; to become efficient. And efficiency equals progress.
You get faster with less effort. And I’m NOT talking about how fast you can run a mile.
Speed is one form of edging that perturbs the body and with perturbation comes transformation.
What is Power?
Power is basically rapid strength. It’s combining speed with force. Bruce Lee = power. An offensive lineman in the NFL = power.
But, guess what? Getting up off the floor fast, or catching your balance = power too.
And even though you might be strong from your training, unless you add the speed part, you won’t develop power. Being strong isn’t enough. You need to be strong and fast.
In life, you need power.
